Centropyge bicolor, known as bicolor angelfish, is one of the largest dwarf angelfish. They also have the body shape of a large Holacanthus angel and not the rounded fins seen on most other Centropyge. The front half of the body is bright yellow and the back half is blue (like juveniles with some dark vertical stripes) usually with a thin yellow border around the dorsal fin. The tail fin is again bright yellow and on the head they have a “crown” spot as can be seen on many large angelfish. In juveniles, this spot is black, but turns blue as they age.

Like all other angelfish, it is hermphrodite and the most dominant fish will transform into a male when there is no other male around. These fish are quite peaceful, but be careful when combining them with much smaller or larger fish and other angelfish (dwarfs). While dwarf angels are certainly more likely to be reef safe compared to their larger relatives and are therefore more often seen in reef tanks, they are always a risk. C. bicolor is generally considered one of the riskiest dwarf angels. They can be difficult to feed, can sometimes be quite dominant, and are reported to nip/eat corals more often than other species. Keeping them well fed appears to reduce the risk, so be sure to feed them an adequate and varied diet of algae and meaty foods, but this species will probably be best enjoyed in a fish-only aquarium.
